Anthony “Tony” Vieira was born in a small town in rural southern Illinois, not all that far from Abe Lincoln's New Salem and Springfield. He spent lots of years doing what country kids do, playing basketball like Illinois kids often do, and then off to college, law school, and the Navy.
Beginning in 1990, he became a U.S. Navy Judge Advocate. His duty stations included NTC Newport, RI, NLSO Treasure Island, and NAS Moffett Field. He was a defense lawyer and a prosecutor and the Officer-In-Charge at the Moffett NLSO detachment. He tried cases ashore and at sea. He was honorably discharged in 1994.
Next, he worked with the Los Angeles County District Attorney, where he was assigned to the Lyle and Erik Menendez case retrial beginning in 1994. From 1995 to 1996, he tried misdemeanor cases in the Glendale and Pasadena, California courts. In 1997, he started working with the DA’s Hardcore Gang Unit, where he tried mostly murder cases.
From 2000 to 2003, he worked as a civil trial lawyer in the San Francisco area on cases involving asbestos, tobacco, and other toxic tort-type injuries. In 2003, he returned to Southern California to live, where he continued trying many different types of civil and criminal trials in many different jurisdictions. He’s also argued extensively in courts of appeal, both State and Federal.
Tony has been a trial lawyer trying cases in front of juries for the entirety of his career. He has tried more than 400 trials to verdict. He has numerous certifications as a trial lawyer and a trial skills instructor. Courtroom work is what he does. Ask him, and he’ll tell you that it’s not always easy but that it is always good.
Regarding his formal education, he has a J.D. from DePaul University and is slowly but surely working on his M.A. in Philosophy from Talbot Seminary. He is licensed in Illinois and California.
Since early this year, Tony has been a trial lawyer in our Culver City office, trying cases mostly in California courts – both north and south.
